Argument essays

Argument essays are not the worst kind of essay, but they are also not the best. There are a few things I like about argument essays. One thing is that they are like an argument. When I was little, my parents always told me that I should be a lawyer because I an good at arguing. I like picking a side on something and defending that side, as long as I get to pick the side. Even though I do like arguing, there are things that I do not like about argument paper. One of these things is all of the research that you have to do. Anothre thing is that you have to be careful what you say and cite all of the sources.

Arguments

I think that we know mostly everything we need to know about arguments. I would like to know more about how to formulate an argument, like what steps to take, instead of just what an argument is. The only thing I think you could do better next time is by providing examples and maybe posting a sample argument on D2L.

My audience

My research paper is about smoking in public. I believe that smoking in all public buildings should be illegal. My audience's name is Eliza Marie Flounderburg. She is a well educated 40 year old representative for Minnesota. i am trying to convince her to vote for legislation banning smoking in all public places. She grew up with parents that smoke, and has asthma because of it. Since this has happened to her, it should be pretty easy to convince her to vote anti-smoke. She also has two daughters that she should want to protect from the harmful effects of second hand smoke.

my last argument

The last argument I got in was with my mother. My cat had just had kittens and I wanted to be able to keep one of them. She did not. We both brought up good points. She said that it was more expensive, my dad's allergies would get worse with two cats, and that I was going off to college, so I would not enjoy it anyways. I brought up many points as well. I said that it would not be much more expensive because we already had all the supplies, it was just a little extra food and kitty litter. I brought up a few facts, but mostly I appealed to her feelings. I told her that since I was the youngest child, when I left she would be lonely and need a kitten or something to keep her entertained and make her laugh. I also told her that it would make want to come home more often to apply to her sense of humor. In the end, I won!!! Now we have two kitties and I love and miss them both.

fallicy

I use alot of diferent fallicies. The one I use the most is the appeal to pity. This is when someone says something to appeal to the audience's emotions, ususally the feeling of sympathy, instead of using facts and evidence. I use this one alot becuase it is very useful when trying to catch the reader's attention. Then, after I have thier attention, I use facts and evidence to prove my point. I also use it because I am good at coming up with them and they are easy to use.

My personal experience essay

There are many reasons that I really liked this essay. It was my favorite that we have done so far. One reason that I liked this essay is that it was easy to writel. We could write about pretty much anything we wanted. I also liked it because we did not have to do any research. One of my least favorite things to do in an english class is reaserch papers. Since we did not have to do any research for this paper, that meant we did not have to do a works cited page or any in text citations. Another good thing about the personal essay is that since we already knew everything that we were writing about, it was much faster to write than if you had to double check the facts.
Although there are many reasons I liked this essay, there are also some reasons that I didn't like it. One reason is that it was really hard to pick a topic. It was nice that we did not have to write about a specific thing, but it also made it hard to pick one specific thing out of my whole life to write about. It was also hard because the topic I picked was kinda emotional. Since it had to do with the attempted suicide someone I knew, it was very depressing to write, but it also felt good to finally let it all out. It was also hard to write because i had to remember the little details and at points that was hard.

My Cultural Experience

Two summers ago, I went to the Dominican Republic on a missions trip. While I was there, I encountered many things that were very differen than what I was used to in my community. One thing that was different was that there was no air conditioning. All day every day, we were hot and sweaty. The funny thing is that we didn't really care, and that after a few days of deing there we didn't even notice it. Another difference was the people around us. Normally, you can just listen in on any conversation that was going on around you, but there, you can't. I knew a little bit of spanish, but even if i tried as hard as I could, I could still only understand a few words of the whole convwersation. It reminded me of the spanish people that some into Sears, where I work, and try to buy clothes. They are completely surrounded by a language that they do not know. I never realized how wierd it was before and how awkward you felt speaking a language that the people around you did not know. Everywhere we went, we had to have a translator with us.
Another different thing there was the mood of the whole country. Everywhere we went, people were happy. Even when we went to the slums, which were houses as big as a bathroom stall in the U.S. that were made out of wood and housed up to 8 people, people were happy ans laughing. Everybody everywhere was nice. They would literally give you the shirt off thier back if you asked for it. They were also very free spirited. They went swinning in waterfalls and jumping off rocks naked and didn't care about what anybody else thought of them. A final difference was the appearence. Every house was a diferent color and had a different colored roof. If you went up to the top of a mountain and looked down at the city, you got an amazing view of a colorful town.
Overall, my experience in the Dominican Republic was amazing. I not only got to help the Dominicans out, I also got to learn alot about thier culture and morals.

Personal Experience

One thing that happened to me that changed my life was joining the police explorers program. I had no clue what I wanted to be or what I wanted to do with my life, all I knew was that I did not want a desk job. So I started looking through more active jobs and found Police Officer. I decided to check it out and found a program called police explorers. I joined the program, and after the first meeting, I knew for sure what I wanted to do in my life. The explorers program meets about three times a month and while we are there, we learn about what cops really do for a job. We also get to role play and practice things like handcuffing, searching, and responding to different types of calls. Every week I would look forward to my next meeting and learning more and more new things. We also got to go on ride-alongs with the officers in the department. These just helped to maximize my dedication to becoming a police officer.

My earliest memory

My earliest memory is from when i was about one year old. I was at my neighbor's house and i stood up on a stool that i did not know was broken. It only had three legs instead of four. When I stood up on the stool, I fell over, bit my tongue in half, knocked my tooth out, got blood all over thier white carpet, and started to bawl my head off. My mom came over and drove me to the hospital. the last thing that i remember is falling asleep in the back of the car on the way there, but my mom says that I was awake for the whole time. When we got to the doctor's office, they would not let us go into the ER, but instead gave us a 15 minute long lecture about why they never send tongue injuries to the ER before they even looked at my tongue. After they actually looked at my tongue, they told me I had to go to theh ER. I ended up getting stitches, but they kept falling out, so I had to get them replaced a couple of times. I still have a scar on my tongue to this day.

Exigent Situation

This morning I was having the most lovely dream when, in my dream, a cell phone went off. I was getting irritated because it just kept beeping and beeping until finally I screamed at someone to answer their stupid cell phone. It was at this time that I promptly woke up and realized, oh crap, thats my alarm clock that is beeping and annoying me. The exigent circumstance of the alarm clock buzzing caused me to wake up, get out of bed, and turn it off.

My First Day

My first day of college was pretty dull. I woke up at 9:00 am to get ready. My first class was US Government. All we did was talk about what the class was going to be like and what the teacher expected from us. I did meet a girl named Ashley. After talking for a while, we realized we had our next class together as well. After the end of class, we walked together to Intro to Law Enforcement. That class went pretty much the same as US Government, but the head of the program came in to talk to us and she was really funny. After Intro to LE, I had a 2 hour break, so I went to lunch. There I met up with a friend from Highschool and we ate lunch together. Even after eating lunch I still had 1.5 hours left, so I got my free sweatshirt and went back to my dorm room. There I organized a few more things and found a bag full of stuff I had been looking for since the day I moved in. Then I left to go to my final class of the day, Eng. Comp 101. And here I am, typing this blog :)
